Kamalika Guha Thakurta is back on stage. And though she has been on this platform for over 10 years now, she’s very excited.Having seen Vagina Monologues several times, when opportunity to essay a character in Eve Ensler’s I Am an Emotional Creature: The Secret Lives of Girls came knocking, Kamalika grabbed it immediately.
I wanted to push myself to do something different. And that’s when this fell into my lap. I wanted to do this play, as it was the first time I was attempting the monologue format,” says the actress.
The characters of the play are not fictional, but real, as they are based on people Eve has met, she says.
The story is so identifiable, it’s the voice of every girl. Most of our lives, we spend trying to please others, be it our parents, friends, partners. We are always being judged, being muted. And so somewhere along the way we forget what we know, how we feel, ” she philosophises.
